Mezzo-soprano
Described by Opera Magazine as a "striking" performer, award-winning mezzo-soprano Isobel Hughes has been making a name for themselves since leaving the David Seligman opera school at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2024.Hughes regularly performs principal roles with some of the UKs leading fringe companies. The 2026 season will being with Hughes performing the role of Hänsel in Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel with Uncovered Opera Company, before making their debut as Tisbe in Exeter Opera Group's southwestern tour of Rossini's La Cenerentola. The 2025 season saw Hughes performing such roles as Mère Marie in Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmelites (Aylesbury Opera), Lola in Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana (Rose Opera), Sesto in CESARE, a new reimagining of Handel's Giulio Cesare (Somerset Opera), 2nd Boy in Mozart's The Magic Flute (Park Opera), and Prince Orlofsky in Johann Struass' Die Fledermaus (New Aquarian Opera).Hughes is an established concert performer, and is the recipient of the Best Female Singer award at the 2025 Hertfordshire Opera Gala Awards. Their recent concerts have seen them perform with DeClassical Studio, Rose Opera in Recital, and Big Gay Out.
